Stefan Bjes, a retired Illinois police sergeant, who served over two decades, much of which was spent as Juvenile Officer and School Resource Officer. In his role, Stefan developed expertise in engaging with students, especially those facing unique challenges such as autism or other developmental disabilities. His work as an SRO involved addressing emerging issues like youth vaping and providing specialized training to help law enforcement. Throughout his career, Stefan gained significant recognition, including being named Illinois Juvenile Officer of the Year in 2019.
Today, Stefan is recognized as an advocate for autism awareness within law enforcement. He leads Blue Line Spectrum Safety, which offers training programs designed to educate first responders on best practices for interacting with individuals on the autism spectrum. His training programs, which are approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, have reached thousands of participants and focus on autism awareness, de-escalation techniques, and communication strategies tailored for police, fire departments, and other public safety agencies.
